Cargo Insurance

Carrier liability rarely covers what your cargo is actually worth. Masmot Logistics arranges marine cargo insurance placement so a shipment's full value — not the carrier's limited liability — is what's protected between origin and destination.

What's Included

Cargo Insurance capabilities

All-risk cargo coverage

Coverage placed against physical loss or damage from external causes, for single shipments or annual programs.

Named-perils coverage

More targeted coverage where all-risk isn't required or appropriate for the cargo type.

Annual open cover policies

For regular shippers, a standing policy that covers shipments automatically as they move.

High-value & project cargo coverage

Coverage placed for cargo values and risk profiles that fall outside standard carrier liability limits.

Claims support

Assistance documenting and filing a claim if cargo is lost or damaged in transit.

Certificate issuance

Insurance certificates issued per shipment for buyers, banks, or letters of credit that require proof of cover.

Process

How it works

Coverage review

Cargo value, commodity type, and route reviewed to recommend all-risk or named-perils coverage.

Placement

Coverage bound before cargo moves, with a certificate issued for your records.

In-transit

Coverage stays active across all legs of the journey as declared in the policy.

Claims (if needed)

If loss or damage occurs, we help document and submit the claim promptly.

FAQ

Common questions about cargo insurance

Carrier liability is typically capped by international convention (for example, per package or per kilogram limits under the Hague-Visby or Montreal rules) — those limits are almost always far below a shipment's actual value. Cargo insurance covers the gap.

All-risk covers loss or damage from any external cause not specifically excluded in the policy. Named-perils coverage only responds to causes explicitly listed, such as fire or vessel sinking — it's narrower, and usually less expensive.

Both are available — single-shipment (voyage) policies for occasional shippers, or an annual open cover policy that automatically covers shipments as they move if you ship regularly.
